What is REFRACT Platform?

REFRACT Platform is a cloud document lifecycle platform purpose-built for enterprises on Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, and Power Platform. It provides end-to-end document automation - from intelligent generation and governed workflows to e-signatures, reliable delivery, and append-only, tamper-evident audit evidence. Rendering, storage, and audit run natively within your Azure environment; REFRACT eSign, REFRACT Delivery, and REFRACT Workflow use a REFRACT-hosted portal to reach signers and recipients.
REFRACT Platform is a unified, architecturally integrated system. Every component (rendering, workflow orchestration, signature management, delivery, compliance validation, and audit preservation) works together within a single governance model under your control.
The Platform
REFRACT Platform orchestrates the entire document lifecycle through seven integrated services:
- REFRACT PDF - Schema-driven document rendering from template and payload.
- REFRACT Workflow - Governed approval and data collection workflows with built-in compliance checkpoints and decision audit trails.
- REFRACT eSign - Electronic signature orchestration with evidence generation, tamper detection, and secure cross-device signing via one-time QR transfer.
- REFRACT Delivery - Multi-channel document distribution with recipient tracking, delivery confirmation, and secure archive integration.
- REFRACT Lifecycle - Cross-document search, compliance audit timelines, integrity verification, and evidence workspace for regulators and auditors.
- REFRACT Notification - Intelligent, queue-based email and SMS delivery with retry logic, bounce handling, and channel optimization.
- REFRACT Audit - Append-only, tamper-evident event logging, integrity verification, and compliance evidence generation for regulated industries.
All services operate in orchestrated tandem through a distributed messaging layer that ensures reliability, traceability, and governance at scale.
How It Works
- Integration - Business systems (Dynamics, Power Automate, SharePoint, APIs) submit structured data and request a template-driven operation (generate, sign, approve, deliver).
- Processing - REFRACT Platform's orchestration layer routes requests through the appropriate service layer: rendering, workflow evaluation, signature binding, delivery queuing, or audit preservation.
- Governance - Every operation generates append-only, tamper-evident audit evidence, compliance checkpoints, and searchable event records retained in your Azure environment.
- Outcomes - Documents, signatures, delivery confirmations, and audit artifacts are generated and stored in your Azure subscription, accessible through unified portal and API. Every document download redirects the browser to your own Dispatcher or SharePoint site, which serves the bytes directly; the REFRACT-hosted portal never receives them.

Tenant-Native
Documents are generated and stored in your Azure subscription. Every document download, for REFRACT eSign, Delivery, and Workflow alike, redirects the browser to your own Dispatcher or SharePoint site, which serves the bytes directly; the portal never receives them. Signature images and field values, and REFRACT Workflow attachment uploads, are the two exceptions: they pass through the portal in memory on their way to your Dispatcher and are never written to its storage. The portal keeps signer contact details, one-time-code hashes and session state. This architectural choice enables compliance rigor, audit transparency, and governance control.
